Hague Convention of 1996

Print Send

The Hague Convention of 19 October 1996 on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children is usually called the Hague Convention on Child Protection.

Together with the other European Union member states, Denmark acceded to the convention on 1 April 2003. However, the convention has not yet been actually ratified (formally acceded to), but this is expected to take place in the summer of 2010 together with the other EU Member States.

The convention will be implemented by Act No. 434 of 8 May 2006 on the Hague Convention on Child Protection, which will be made effective when Denmark has ratified the convention.

Accordingly, the convention is currently not applicable in Denmark.
